Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s CEO has spoken about the origins of Alexa being inspired by “Star Trek”, specifically the talking computer. The voice-activated digital assistant is honoring the newest embodiment of the Star Trek tale. Bezos is a big fan of Star Trek and even has a cameo appearance in “Star Trek Beyond” movie at the 13:12 mark.
In credit to “Star Trek: Discovery” which debuted on CBS All Access September 24, Amazon introduced new skills to Alexa that can be used on Echo, Echo Dots and other Alexa-enabled devices. To get a speedy update on the weather and other news for example, you will just need to say “Alexa, damage report.” Getting up to speed with Star Trek trivia, all you need to say is “Alexa, open Star Trek” and a three-part Star Trek quiz will be introduced by a star straight out of the new series.
To add some cool sound effects just say “Alexa, fire photon torpedoes,” “Alexa, red alert” or “Alexa, beam me up.”
Many other tricks can be tried with exciting results. These include;
“Alexa, What would Scotty say?”
“Alexa, what is your mission?”
“Alexa, speak Klingon.”
“Alexa, Revenge is a dish best served cold.”
“Alexa, What would McCoy say?”
“Alexa, State Starfleet rank and class.”
“Alexa, Do you trust Klingons?”
