Amazon acquires Whole Foods for $13.7 billion

Earlier this June, e-commerce retail leader Amazon announced that they are buying organic supermarket chain Whole Foods at $13.7 billion. This move is set to ease the supermarket’s net debt and purchase their stocks at $42 per share. With Amazon’s recent interest in food markets, this could be one of their largest attempt at penetrating the industry since their launch of AmazonFresh.
